Bruno Weigand
Bruno Weigand (born December 24, 1850 in Mühlhausen / Thuringia ; † November 24, 1923 in Freiburg im Breisgau ) was a German teacher, geologist and entomologist .
Life
Weigand made his secondary school diploma in Bromberg in 1870 to volunteer in the Franco-Prussian War of 1870/71 . After the peace treaty he studied natural sciences and mathematics in Berlin for the first two semesters and then switched to the newly established University of Strasbourg to complete his studies with the state examination for teaching with a doctorate on "The Serpentine in the Vosges". Afterwards he worked both in the school service and at the geognostic-palaeontological institute of the Strasbourg University. From 1891 he took part in all international geology congresses. For the geological state institute of Alsace-Lorraine, he edited the recording of the sheet Wasselnheim and the surrounding area. After Alsace-Lorraine fell to France after the First World War , he had to leave Strasbourg and moved to Freiburg im Breisgau in 1919.
