The Agreement on Community Patents (VüGP) was signed on December 15, 1989 by the twelve former member states of the European Communities , but has not yet come into force. The main component of the VüGP is the Community Patent Convention (GPÜ), through which a community patent should be created as a unitary patent for all EC states. A few additional protocols are attached to this GPÜ in the VGP.

Currently, in the European Union aimed at the Community patent of a regulation by the Council to introduce. But even here, an agreement is currently not in sight.
