Halberstadt depot

Former locomotive administration, June 2009

The Halberstadt depot (Bw Halberstadt) existed until 2003 and, during the time of the Reichsbahn, housed one of the largest stocks of class 50 35 steam locomotives . The Halberstadt depot was the last steam locomotive depot of the Deutsche Reichsbahn .

On October 29, 1988, the regular use of steam locomotives also ended here. The 50 3559 was the last time the Halberstadt – Magdeburg – Halberstadt – Thale – Halberstadt circuit was made that day. The locomotive was used between 1990 and 2015 as a decorative part of a restaurant in Erftstadt and has since been restored to a functional condition. As a traditional locomotive, 50 3708, which had been parked in Oschersleben since 1986, was restored to working order in 1988/89 . The Halberstadt depot mostly covered the trains from Halberstadt to Ilsenburg , Blankenburg (Harz) , Magdeburg Hbf , Thale Hbf , Dedeleben, Frose (via Quedlinburg ), Osterwieck, Gunsleben, Hessen and Halle, but also some trains to Berlin-Lichtenberg and Leipzig Hbf .

It had several locations (Est): Quedlinburg train station (until 1946), Oschersleben (from March 1, 1963 to September 26, 1992), Hesse (from April 1, 1949 to December 8, 1969), Osterwieck train station (from April 1 1949 to September 26, 1992), Blankenburg (from July 1, 1993 to 2005). After the Second World War, the Halberstadt depot owned class 50 35 locomotives as well as class 22 , 23 10 (35 10 ) , 38 10–40 , 42 , 44 , 56 20–29 , 94 5–17 steam locomotives . From 1975 onwards, more and more diesel locomotives of the classes 112 , 118 , 119 , 120 and 132 moved here . In 1982 the 01 511 was based there for a short time and also drove to Berlin, among other places. Towards the end, the Halberstadt depot only had class 118 locomotives as mainline locomotives, most of which went to the Stendal depot after it was closed . The large roundhouse with the turntable in front of it and the service buildings are now idle. It is unclear what will happen to the systems in the long term. The long-term preservation of the train washing facility is very questionable since Connex has been serving the northern Harz network and having the vehicles maintained by VIS Halberstadt.
