The Lohnsteuerhilfeverein Vereinigte Lohnsteuerhilfe e. V. (VLH) has been active nationwide as a wage tax aid association since 1972. In around 3,000 advice centers, the association looks after more than a million members in the field of income tax . Due to the number of its advice centers and members, the association described itself as Germany's largest wage tax aid association.
history
In 1964, at the instigation of the trade unions , the legislature created the institution of income tax aid associations. The aim was to provide affordable tax advice to employees of all income groups. The VLH was then founded in 1972 by Ernst Strötzel in Neustadt an der Weinstrasse . Until German reunification , the VLH had 340 advisory center managers who looked after 37,000 members.
After reunification, the association expanded into the new federal states. By 1992 the number of members increased to 170,000. In 1995 the VLH already had 380,000 members. In 2007 the VLH merged with the Ludwigshafen wage tax aid association. V. and increased the number of members to 680,000. According to its own information, the VLH had 1,000,000 members in 2019.
Ernst Strötzel's son has been on the board of the association since 1991. In 1996 Jörg Strötzel took over the chairmanship of the board and has been running the business ever since. The club's headquarters are still located in an industrial park in Neustadt an der Weinstrasse.

The income tax aid association prepares the income tax return for employees, retirees and retirees within the framework of a membership limited according to § 4 No. 11 StBerG.

The counseling center managers work both full-time and part-time for the VLH. In an official suitability procedure, the professional and personal suitability are checked beforehand in accordance with the Tax Advisory Act.
quality control
On May 1, 2006, the DIN standard 77700 "Services for income tax aid associations" came into force. Representatives of the NVL and BDL , the German Lawyers' Association , the Association of Tax Advisors and the Stiftung Warentest were involved . Since then, advisory center managers have been able to get certified according to DIN standard 77700 by wage tax aid associations. The examination is taken by the successor organization of the Auditing Association of Lohnsteuerhilfevereine e. V. (PVL), the certification association of income tax aid associations founded in 2006. V. (ZVL).
According to its own information, the VLH provides most of the advice center managers certified according to DIN 77700. A total of around 1,500 advice centers or advice center managers are certified, partially certified or have a certificate of specialist knowledge in accordance with DIN 77700.
membership
In order to use the services of the VLH, you have to be a member of the association. Employees, civil servants, pensioners, trainees, students and dependents can become members under the conditions of § 4 No. 11 StBerG. The membership fee is socially graded and depends on the amount of the respective annual income. There is also a one-off admission fee of 10 euros.
