Verity (statue)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Verity (dt. Truth ) is a more than 20-meter-high, 25-ton bronze statue by British artist Damien Hirst at the harbor entrance of the English seaside town of Ilfracombe . It was set up on October 19, 2012 and shows a pregnant young woman, whose organs, including the uterus and fetus, are visible on the right, similar to the body worlds of the German doctor and plastinologist Gunther von Hagens .

When it was erected, Verity was the tallest statue in Britain. However, since 2013 it has been surpassed by The Kelpies , near Falkirk in Scotland, which are 30 m high.
