Traffic meteorology

Traffic meteorology is a sub-discipline of meteorology . It deals with so-called “significant” atmospheric processes and phenomena that have an impact on road, rail, water or air traffic, and their prediction or simulation with the aim of being able to avoid traffic obstructions through preventive measures.

In Germany there are departments for traffic meteorology for shipping at the Federal Maritime and Hydrographic Agency , for air traffic at DLR and at the Leibniz University in Hanover .
