The F-Gas Regulation (actually: Regulation (EC) No. 842/2006 of the European Parliament and of the Council of May 17, 2006 on certain fluorinated greenhouse gases ) is an EC regulation for the control of systems that produce certain greenhouse-promoting fluorocarbons (PFC ) contain. It has been in force since July 4, 2006 and July 4, 2007. On January 1, 2015, it will be replaced by Regulation (EU) No. 517/2014 on fluorinated greenhouse gases .

The ordinance stipulates that systems, such as air conditioning and cooling devices as well as fire extinguishing systems , must be checked for leaks at regular intervals with certain gases and that this must be recorded. There is no ban on fluorocarbons.

The requirements depend on the filling quantity of the individual system:

  • 3 kg to 30 kg: annual inspection
(6 kg for hermetically sealed systems)
  • 30 kg to 300 kg:
every six months (annually with existing leakage monitoring system)
  • over 300 kg: quarterly check
(every six months with existing leakage detection system)

The extinguishing agents R-227ea and R-23 are HFCs and are therefore covered by this regulation.

The refrigerant R 404A is an HFC (mixture of HFC-143a, HFC-125 and HFC-134a) and is therefore covered by this regulation. The refrigerant R-22 (chlorodifluoromethane) is an HCFC and is therefore not subject to this regulation. In this case, the EG-VO 1005/2009 applies first and additionally at the national level the chemical ozone layer regulation (ChemOzonSchichtV).

As of 2011, only substances with a GWP value of less than 150 may be used for air conditioning systems in new series of passenger cars . From 2017 this limit will apply to all new vehicles.

The qualification and certification of the companies and employees is regulated in the supplementary regulation (EC) No. 303/2008 and implemented by 2011. This means that commercial installation (e.g. connecting two or more parts to form a refrigeration system , whether pre-filled or not) is only permitted by certified personnel who work in certified companies.

The small cold or 5 kg bill is a thing of the past.
