Stamping

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

An embossing is a step with a defined shape pressed into a thin-walled component.

Embossing is often used to stiffen thin-walled components. This increases the bending resistance and reduces the tendency to vibrate.

Types of embossments:

  • Knobs are point-like depressions or elevations
  • Beads are channel-shaped depressions or line-shaped elevations
    • short beads are also known as (stiffening) strokes designated
    • line-shaped protrusions are also called ribs designated
  • Folds are edges or folds (usually in sheet metal or in paper) that are often L-shaped or Z-shaped (step).
