The Verrätergasse is a street in the historic old town of the city of Görlitz in Upper Lusatia . The short and narrow alley connects the Obermarkt on the south side with Langenstrasse on the north side. The houses on the Gasse are all side or rear buildings of Langenstrasse and Obermarkt.

The street got its name from an event in 1527. The cloth makers are said to have gathered in the rear building at Langenstrasse 12 to plan the cloth makers' revolt against the city council. The house belonged to Peter Liebig. According to the legend, however, the plans were betrayed and the city council had the tower clock on the so-called monk of the Trinity Church put forward by seven minutes. The conspirators left their hiding place when the monk's bell struck and fell into the hands of the patrolling guards of the council. Nine of the insurgent drapers were executed, 14 imprisoned and 25 expelled from the city.

At the starting point of the revolt - on the door of the rear building at Langenstrasse 12, the letters "DVRT 1527" (The Traitorous Rotte Tor) were carved into the walled-up lintel in memory of the betrayal . In 1575 the two owners of the houses Obermarkt 26 and 27, Georg Schwettig and Martin Hoffmann, built over the Verrätergasse between their houses. In the great city fire of July 31, 1717, the entire building north of the Obermarkt burned down, including the Verrätergasse.

Later, a plaque with the following inscription was attached to the passage through the Obermarkt: “In 1527 the Goerlitz cloth makers planned their third uprising against the council in order to participate in the city regiment. Their leaders came in the back of Peter Liebig Langenstr. 12 together and hoarded weapons here. The uprising was spotted prematurely and put down. 9 conspirators were executed as traitors to the city, 19 tortured and 25 ostracized. The door through which they came into Liebig's house has since then bears the inscription ″ DVRT 1527 ″: ″ Der Verräterischen Rotte Tür ″ - hence the name Verrätergasse. “ .
