Insurance business administration

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Insurance Management (also: Insurance Business Administration) is a branch of Business Administration (BWL) and counts as a special business administration to the economic activities teachings. So it is an industry-specific business administration such as B. the banking management . It is also a branch of insurance science , which, in addition to insurance management, also includes actuarial mathematics , insurance law and insurance medicine.

The subjects of teaching and research in insurance management are insurance companies , including the types of insurers and their types of offer. This also includes questions of legal regulation and supervision of the insurance industry, as well as risk management, insurance contracts, insurance brokerage, product design, consumer protection and the processes of insurance sales as well as - currently - the effects of the financial crises on the capital investments of insurers.

The insurance economics , however, examined the demand of individuals and companies for insurance coverage and their motives, including the consequences of asymmetric information, the selection of insurance companies, the contracts and the moral hazard and the insurance fraud.

Education

At the European universities as well as in Germany, the establishment of insurance business administration began predominantly at the beginning of the 20th century. At the end of the 19th century, individual institutions existed in the form of seminars, institutes and chairs: At that time, lectures on insurance theory were offered in Europe by the Copenhagen University of Commerce and the universities in Munich, Cologne and St. Gallen.

"Insurance business administration" today is often the name of an introductory event in insurance courses (e.g. a bachelor's degree in insurance management or a master's degree in insurance management) or courses with an insurance-specific focus at universities and colleges for applied sciences.
