Insurance industry

The insurance industry refers to an industry whose object is to insure the risks of its customers. Usually the term only includes private insurance. The related economic discipline of insurance economics deals, among other things, with the insurance market .

From a microeconomic perspective, it includes insurers as producers of insurance cover and policyholders as users of insurance cover. In macroeconomic terms , the insurance industry is the aggregate of insurance supply and demand (insurance market theory). From an economic point of view, it can be shown how the insurance affects economic aggregates.

Insurance industry

The insurance industry, i.e. the insurance industry in the sense of a branch of the service industry , is an important branch of the economy in developed service companies.

The insurance industry in Germany employed around 218,900 people in individual insurance in 2007, which is a decrease of around 3% compared to the previous year. Including people employed as intermediaries, the insurance industry had 292,010 employees subject to social insurance in 2006; in the previous year this was 299,050, in the previous year 306,070.

With 26,520 employees in the insurance industry (2007), the city ​​of Cologne is the city with the most employees in the insurance industry; in second and third place are Munich with 26,030 employees and Hamburg with 22,990 employees.
