The pension equalization fund of the municipal associations in Schleswig-Holstein (VAK) is a corporation under public law with employer capacity within the meaning of the civil service regulations. The headquarters of VAK is in Kiel , there are also regional centers with offices in Rendsburg and Itzehoe .
history
The pension equalization fund of the municipal associations, or VAK for short, was founded on the basis of the law of May 30, 1949 as the universal successor to the pension fund of the province of Schleswig-Holstein and the widows and orphans fund of the province of Schleswig-Holstein.
The following list shows the development of the VAK to the present day:

tasks
VAK is a service provider for municipalities in the following areas:
- Civil servant pension (granting and payment of pension payments)
- Advice on civil service law issues
- Aid Fund (granting and paying out allowances and welfare benefits)
- Remuneration fund (granting and payment of remuneration)
- Landesfamilienkasse (granting and payment of family benefits)
- Personnel service (calculation of travel costs, assumption of job evaluations and management of personnel selection processes)
organs
The organs of the VAK are the board of directors and the chairman of the board of directors (Section 4 of the above-mentioned law). According to the statutes of the VAK (cf. § 9 Paragraph 1), the full-time managing director of the VAK heads the administration of the VAK. The managing director of VAK is Nils Lindemann.
Members
The members of the VAK are divided into compulsory and voluntary members. The compulsory members include all municipalities, municipal associations, offices and municipal special-purpose associations, insofar as they employ employees who are entitled to benefits in accordance with the principles of civil service law (cf. § 3 Paragraph 1 of the above-mentioned law).
As a voluntary member, the VAK supports almost all municipalities, cities and districts in Schleswig-Holstein in its various specialist areas .
