Piasecki Helicopter Corporation was an American company based in Philadelphia , Pennsylvania , which developed and produced helicopters.

history

Emergence

In 1943, Frank Piasecki founded the PV Engineering Forum company with a former schoolmate . Although he only designed a helicopter, the PV-2 , for this predecessor company , the US Navy showed great interest, so Piasecki received an order to develop a helicopter. To this end, he renamed the company Piasecki Helicopter Corporation in 1946, and a year later it was entered in the commercial register. In addition to the original location in Philadelphia, another was added in Morton . After the PV-2, all other helicopters are transport helicopters with a double main rotor in tandem configuration . The company was very successful with these models.

Realignment and takeover

Probably after disputes, the company's founder Piasecki left the company in 1955 and founded another helicopter manufacturer, the Piasecki Aircraft Corporation . The Piasecki Helicopter Corporation was renamed Vertol Aircraft Corporation after his departure in 1956 . Only one prototype was created under this name, the Vertol VZ-2 . Then Boeing , until now only an aircraft manufacturer, bought the company and thereby expanded its portfolio. Boeing Vertol is still a separate department with a focus on helicopter development.
