Administrative Court of Leipzig
The Administrative Court of Leipzig , a court of administrative jurisdiction , is one of three administrative courts in the Free State of Saxony .
Seat and District of the Court
The judicial district of the court extends to the area of the former administrative district of Leipzig . It is therefore locally responsible for the area of the independent city of Leipzig as well as the districts of Leipzig and northern Saxony .
history
Shortly before the political change in the GDR, chambers for administrative matters were formed in the district courts of Leipzig, Dresden and Chemnitz in July 1989 . These were initially retained in the local courts after reunification. On July 1, 1992, the chambers existing at the Leipzig District Court were removed from this and an independent administrative court with initially nine judges in three chambers was established.
Procedure and staffing
As of January 1, 2008, 19 judges and 20 employees were active in 6 chambers of the Leipzig Administrative Court. Until November 30, 2004, Susanne Schlichting (* 1939) was the President of the Administrative Court. Bettina Dick held this position from December 1, 2004 to August 15, 2017. Then Birgitta Braun, who had been Vice President since 2005, became the new President. In 1992, the year it was founded, the court had 1,390 entries. In 2002 there were 4,479, in 2003 already 4,580, 2004 4,665, 2005 3,699 and 2006 3,139 lawsuits and applications for interim legal protection that were newly filed. A total of 56,503 proceedings were filed between 1993 and 2006. 54,111 proceedings were completed during this time.
Courthouse
Since July 1992, the Leipzig Administrative Court has had its seat at Rathenaustraße 40 in Leipzig-Leutzsch . A listed villa, which was built in 1897/99 and originally belonged to the fur trader Curt Thorer , serves as the courthouse . From 1952 the school for librarians "Erich Weinert" was housed in the building. In the 1980s the building housed the Administrative Academy of the Leipzig District Council. In 1997, the Leipzig Administrative Court upheld an action brought by the previous owners for a return transfer. The building is now rented by the descendants of the previous owners.
Superior courts
The higher court is the Saxon Higher Administrative Court in Bautzen. This is followed by the Federal Administrative Court in Leipzig in the course of instances .
