history

Club history

VfL Frotheim goes back to the Frotheim sports club , which was registered on May 16, 1925 - at that time also known as the Free Games and Sports Association . The Frotheim sports club was affiliated with the Workers' Gymnastics and Sports Association. Around 1930 the soccer team of the sports club played in the district class. In 1930, a second sports club was founded in the village with the gymnastics community of Frotheim . The gymnastics community belonged to the German gymnastics association. With the prohibition of the Workers' Gymnastics and Sports Federation in May 1933, the Frotheim sports club was forced to be dissolved by the National Socialists. The members of the sports club gradually switched to the gymnastics community. The Second World War brought club life to a complete standstill in 1943.

In August 1945, the gymnastics community Frotheim had to be renamed due to a control council decision of the British occupation forces. Club operations (athletics, soccer, swimming, gymnastics, handball) were resumed under the name of Frotheim Sports Community . In 1954, the Frotheim football club was founded because the football department of the sports community was idle. On January 8, 1956, the football club and the sports community merged to form VfL Frotheim 1925 .

Women's field handball

The women's field handball team of the Frotheim sports community played in the Minden-Lübbecke-Herford district class from 1948 to 1952 and in the Lower Saxony district class from 1952 to 1958. The district class in women's field handball was the top division in North Rhine-Westphalia and Lower Saxony at the time. The women of the sports community won the district class championship four times between 1949 and 1952 and the East Westphalia championship held in cup mode in 1951. In 1949 and 1952 they failed in the battle for the Westphalia Championship, which was also held in the knockout system, each in the semifinals. Friendlies were regularly played nationwide, u. a. against Berliner SC and Urania Hamburg , the German champions from 1953. The home games often attracted more than 2,000 spectators.

In addition to football and table tennis, gymnastics, fitness and health sports , karate, darts and physical education for preschool children are offered according to the concept of Renate Zimmer .
