The Viðfjörður is a small, fjord in the east of Iceland . It belongs to the east fjords and is the southernmost of the three fjords in Norðfjarðarflói.
The name means wood fjord, because of the driftwood that was extracted here in the past. The fjord can be reached via the almost 8 km long slope Viðfjarðarvegur (F959). From here there was a boat connection to Neskaupstaður before the route via Oddsskarð was possible in 1949.
The stone house in the fjord was built in 1930. The fjord was abandoned in the early 1950s. The house has now been renovated and is used for tourism. In Iceland, Viðfjörður is known for its ghost and ghost stories.
