The Norðfjarðarflói is a fjord-like bay on the east coast of Iceland .

It lies between Nípa in the west and Barðsneshorn in the east. There are three small fjords in Norðfjarðarflói: In the north is Norðfjörður (2 km wide, 4 km deep). In it lies the city of Neskaupstaður , the largest town in the East Fjords . The middle is Hellisfjörður (1.5 km wide, 2 km deep), which can only be reached by sea. In the south lies the Viðfjörður (1.5 km wide, 3 km deep). It can be reached via a slope above Eskifjörður .

The area around Neskaupstaður has been settled since the Icelandic conquest in the 9th and 10th centuries, but a road connection has only existed since 1949. This was improved in 1977 by the Oddsskarðsgöng and forty years later by the Norðfjarðargöng .
