The Norðfjörður is a small fjord in the east of Iceland . It belongs to the east fjords .

It is the only one of the three fjords in Norðfjarðarflói that is inhabited. The town of Neskaupstaður with 1,469 inhabitants is located on its north bank (as of January 1, 2019).

Since November 2017, the fjord has been easily accessible by road through the Norðfjarðargöng . It has been possible to drive through the Oddsskarðsgöng tunnel (632 m) since 1977 . And since 1949 you had to cross the Oddsskarð pass (705 m). Before that, the fjord could only be reached by sea, for example from Viðfjörður .
