Ceiling collapse and access to the cave in the Hallmundarhraun lava field

The lava tube Víðgelmir is located 2 kilometers from the farm Fljótstunga in lava Hallmundarhraun in the west of Iceland . With a total length of 1585 meters and a volume of 148,000 cubic meters, it is one of the largest caves in Iceland alongside the Surtshellir .

The cave is closed for nature conservation reasons. However, guided tours through the undeveloped cave are offered from the nearby farm.
