Viberti is one of the most traditional brands in Italy and was founded in 1922 with the aim of meeting the then growing demand for civil and military commercial vehicles. Most of the commercial vehicles initially manufactured in Turin were also used in World War II , such as the Sahariana off-road vehicle . However, the brand achieved international popularity especially in the 1950s with its omnibuses , such as the Monotral double-decker model . The company also manufactured mopeds until 1957 .

After structural problems and a fundamental change in its own product range, the Italian competitor Acerbi took over the company in 2011 . Together with two other brands of the so-called Italiana Rimorchi group , however, the Polish commercial vehicle manufacturer Wielton bought all of the shares in Viberti in 2016. Since then, sales of the commercial vehicles now assembled at Pescara have almost doubled again.
