Victor Futter (born January 22, 1919 in Brooklyn , NY, † September 21, 2005 in Manhasset ) was an American lawyer and professor. Victor Futter was the editor of Nonprofit Governance and therefore a well-known New York lawyer.

Life

Victor Futter studied at Columbia University in New York and received his doctorate in 1942. During World War II he served in Europe and as a military governor in Japan.

In 1946 he started his legal career with the New York law firm "Sullivan & Cromwell". In 1952 he moved to the Allied Corporation, now: Honeywell International , as an in-house attorney . He stayed there as Vice President until his retirement in 1984. He then was a consulting partner in the New York law firm "Sills Cummis".

Futter was also a professor at the Hofstra University Law School. Previously he taught at Columbia University Law School and Fairleigh Dickinson University .

Victor Futter was the editor of "Nonprofit Governance". He was honored with the "Vanguard Award" from the American Bar Association's Section of Business for Lifetime Achievement. In 1999 he received the "President's Cup" award from Columbia University for his services to the alma mater.

Victor Futter left behind his wife Joan Feinberg, whom he married in 1943, as well as three children and seven grandchildren.
