Víctor Emilio Galíndez (* 2. November 1948 in Vedia; † 25. October 1980 in Veinticinco de Mayo) was an Argentine boxer in light heavyweight .

amateur

Víctor Galíndez finished at the Pan American Games in 1967 in Winnipeg, second place in the light middleweight division behind the Cuban Rolando Garbey . In 1968 he took part in the Olympic Games in Mexico City , but lost in the first fight against the Italian Aldo Bentini. According to the International Boxing Hall of Fame , which he was inducted into in 2002, his record was 52-9-4.

professional

In 1969 he became a professional and showed only a rather average clout, but a big fighter heart and above-average taker skills. At first he lost several times against his compatriots Juan Aguilar, Ramon Avenamar Peralta and Jorge Victor Ahumada, but he did not give up and gradually gained the upper hand in the bitter encounters. Against Aguilar his record was 4-2-1, against Ahumada 4-1 and against Peralta 3-3. By the end of 1971, however, he had already had six defeats on the account.

Then he managed a series of 43 fights in a row until 1978 in which he remained undefeated. In 1972 he won the Argentine and South American championships. On December 7, 1974, he won the vacant WBA world title by a technical knockout in the thirteenth round against the American Len Hutchins.

He defended the belt against largely unknown opponents in the following years, but defeated Eddie Mustafa Muhammad and twice Yaqui Lopez. Galíndez finally lost the title on September 15, 1978 to Mike Rossman by technical knockout in round thirteen. He won the title back in the rematch in April 1979, only to give it to Marvin Johnson in the next fight . He fought his last fight in June 1980. A discussed unification fight with John Conteh never materialized.

In October 1980, Víctor Galíndez was hit by a car in a car race in the pit lane and died of the injuries.
