Video player

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A video player is a type of media player for playing digital video data from media such as optical data storage media (e.g. DVD , VCD ), as well as files in corresponding file formats such as MPEG , AVI , RealVideo and QuickTime .

In addition to the VCR -like functions such as play, pause, stop, rewind and fast-forward also known functions such as zoom / are full screen , select the audio channel, selection of subtitles and still image included.

Many of these video players also support simple playback of digital audio as well as 3D playback of 2D videos.

3D video player

3D video players are used to play 2D videos in 3D format.

A high quality three dimensional video presentation requires that each frame of a film / video contain information about the depth of the objects present in the scene. This process means that the video is recorded with special equipment from two different perspectives, or that each image is modeled and rendered as a collection of objects composed of corners and textures, very similar to the processes used to achieve special effects in any modern video game. Because it is tedious and costly, this method is only used in a small proportion of the films produced worldwide. Most movies remain in the form of traditional 2D images.

It is possible, however, to use a much simpler approach to give an otherwise two-dimensional image the appearance of depth. A technique known as anaglyph editing can be used to transform a “flat” image so that it creates the illusion of depth when viewed with anaglyph glasses (usually red-cyan). When looking at an image through anaglyph glasses, it appears to contain both protruding and deeper objects, this effect causing slightly distorted colors. The method itself is relatively old. It dates back to the mid-19th century, but it was only with the recent developments in computer technology that it became possible to perform such conversions on a series of images in a film quickly enough or almost in real time, i.e. while the video was playing. There are some applications in the form of 3D video players that convert conventional 2D videos to anaglyphic 3D videos, and in the form of 3D video converters that convert videos into stereoscopic anaglyph videos and play them with regular software or hardware video players transcode.
