Vidzgiris
Vidzgiris (of lit. giria ' timber ') is a neighborhood in the municipality Alytus , in southern Lithuania . It was created as a microrajon in Soviet Lithuania . Vidzgiris is located west of the center of the city of Alytus . There is a Roman Catholic high school, three secondary schools, a post office, the Vėtrungės monument and a shop (supermarket). To the northwest there is a Roman Catholic church. In the district is the Vidzgiris Forest, a city park and botanical reserve. There is a Jewish cemetery in the park .
history
In 1977, the 8th Alytus Middle School (from 2009 Vidzgirio Secondary School) was built, and in 1984 the 10th Alytus Middle School (now Volungės Secondary School). and in 1989 the 12th Alytus Middle School (now Likiškėliai Secondary School ). From 1991 to 2001 a Roman Catholic church was built. In 1991 a Roman Catholic elementary school was founded, which opened in 1996, became a middle school in 1998 and a grammar school in 2006.
In 2000 a football club FK Vidzgiris Alytus was founded here. In winter 2011 he merged with the club FK Alytis to form FK Dainava .
