The multi-tooth Johanniskrauteule ( Actinotia polyodon ) is a butterfly from the family of cutworms (Noctuidae).

features

The moth is unmistakable thanks to its distinctive fore wings. These are also eponymous for the butterfly species. The drawing of the wing edges is reminiscent of "teeth". The wings are patterned in the colors brownish, white and purple. The span is 31–36 mm.

Occurrence

The butterfly is found in the Palearctic . Its distribution area extends from Europe via Russia to Japan.

Way of life

The butterflies fly in two generations from May to mid-June and July to the end of August. The main food plant of the caterpillars is St. John's wort ( Hypericum perforatum ). Another food plant is the bear pod ( Astragalus glycyphyllos ). The butterfly species overwinters as a pupa.
