The Mərdəkan Square Castle is a castle in M Ortrdəkan on the Abşeron Peninsula in Azerbaijan , which was part of the chain of fortifications on the peninsula. It was probably built in the 14th century and is 2.5 km from the Caspian Sea .
Castle complex
The courtyard of the castle is 28 × 25 meters, the six-meter-high walls surrounding it form almost a square. Round stones were erected at the corners . Several wells were found in the courtyard . In the middle of the courtyard there is a 22 meter high residential tower with five floors. The spiral staircase begins two meters above the ground floor. The walls and the residential tower are provided with loopholes and finished with a cornice . The residential tower, whose cornice is decorated, has four round bastions.
