Mərdəkan (also Mardakjan ) is a settlement (qəsəbə) on the Abşeron Peninsula in Azerbaijan . It belongs to the Xəzər district of the capital Baku . The settlement had around 24,900 inhabitants in 2014.
There are two castles in the settlement, the square Mərdəkan is the larger one with a tower with a square floor plan. The smaller round castle Mərdəkan has a round tower. There are also two old baths, the Heydar Mosque and the Tuba Shakha Mosque, a theater and a cultural center.
Mərdəkan is connected to the Azerbaijani railway and bus network.
