The Vietnam Day Committee (VDC) in Berkeley (California) grew out of the "Vietnam Day" out, the 35-hour anti- Vietnam War - Teach-in , which on 21 and 22 May 1965 about 35,000 people on the campus of University of California brought.

Immediately after "Vietnam Day" the members of the VDC met the following priorities for the peace movement :

  • National and international solidarity and coordination of actions.
  • Militant actions, including civil disobedience.
  • Extensive community work to develop a grassroots opposition outside the university campus and take advantage of the militancy of direct action.

In late May 1965, the VDC set October 15 and 16, 1965 as the date for the “ International Days of Protest Against American Military Intervention ” and sent a request for support all over the world.
