Vijnanabhikshu
Vijnanabhikshu ( Sanskrit : विज्ञानभिक्षु Vijñānabhikṣu) was an Indian Samnyasin from the Varanasi area who lived in the second half of the 16th century. He wrote several works on different Indian teaching systems , namely on Vedanta , Yoga and Samkhya and tried to combine these three teachings in an "indistinguishable non-dualism" ( avibhagādvaita ), always emphasizing theistic and mystical thoughts.
Works
His major works include Vijñānāmṛtabhāṣya , a commentary on the Brahma Sutra , a basic work on Vedanta. Yogavārttika is the longest sub-commentary on Yogasūtrabhāṣya by Vyasa and, although written relatively late, it is an important work that contributes to the understanding of yoga. Vijnanabhikshu also wrote the small work Yogasārasaṃgraha , which also deals with the yoga of Patanjali .
Sāṃkhyapravacanabhāṣya is considered to be the most important commentary on the Samkhya doctrine, with Vijnanabhikshu taking the view that the Samkhya is only conceived atheistically in order to develop indifference towards the desire to achieve divine dignity.
