Vikingfjord Vodka

Vikingfjord Vodka is a vodka brand with an alcohol content of 37.5, 40.0 or 50.0%  vol. , which is bottled by the Norwegian company Arcus. It is said that the brand is one of the most popular in Norway.

history

Along with Poland and Russia, Norway has a long tradition of producing clear spirits . Before industrialization, many farms made their own distillers, as alcohol was used to "warm up" during the cold winter. Because of the unfavorable production conditions, potatoes were used to prepare the mash . Potatoes have significantly better yields in the Norwegian climate and were commonly used to make vodka. For a long time, Aquavit was the most popular spirit in Norway. More recently, Vikingfjord has been referred to as such.

Vikingfjord was created in 1985 under the direction of Heublein (known for the vodka brand Smirnoff ) together with the former state monopoly "Vinmonopolet". A name was chosen that should create a reference to Norway for international sales. After Heublein was taken over by "Internatioan Distillers & Vintners" a short time later, there was no marketing outside of Norway. Export only began after Arcus took over the trademark rights. Vikingfjord has been sold in the United States since 2002, where it is now established in the “luxury vodka segment”.

Since 2001 Berentzen has had the distribution rights for Vikingfjord Vodka in Germany. Berentzen also held 26.9 percent of the shares in Sucra AS, the 100 percent parent company of Arcus, until 2005.

The product won prizes from The International Wine & Spirit Competition and The International Spirit Challenge .
