Vilain XIIII

Vilain XIIII (pronounced: Vilain Quatorze ) is a Belgian noble family whose progenitor is a certain Wennemar (* 860/870). The name "Villain" (later "Vilain"), of unknown origin, was first borne by Walter von Gent, the younger son of Burgrave Hugo II of Gent . François Ignace Vilain (1734) called himself "Vilain XIIII" for unknown reasons. The members of the family were raised to burgraves by Maria Theresa in 1758 . The following are mentioned:

There is a castle in Belgium northwest of Maasmechelen on the Meuse , also known as "Castle Vilain XIIII"; the last noble resident of the castle was Louise Vilain XIIII.
