Poul Christian Vilhelm Madsen Milthers (* 1865 ; † 1962 ) was a Danish geologist, particularly of the Quaternary .

Milthers trained as a chemical engineer at the Askov Adult Education Center from 1886 to 1888 and at the Polytechnic Institute, where he graduated in 1894. Since 1895 he worked as a geologist in the geological survey of Denmark (Danmarks Geologiske Undersøgelse). From 1904 until his retirement in 1935 he held the title of State Geologist . In particular, he examined the Ice Age landscapes of Denmark and developed a statistical method of dating and classifying moraines according to guide debris . However, its limitation to a few types of rock (six types of porphyries ) turned out to be too narrow. In addition to the guide attachments in Scandinavia, he also examined their distribution in western Poland, eastern Silesia and northern Moravia.

In the first decades of the 20th century, as a defender of Darwinism , he was also involved in controversies with representatives of the creationist currents within the Grundvig folk high school system that was so influential in Denmark. 1913 to 1931 he was director of the Copenhagen Adult Education Association (Højskoleforening).

He was an honorary doctorate from the University of Copenhagen .

He coined the name Alleröd-Interstadial in the Vistula Ice Age.
