The Viljandi Culture Academy ( Estonian : Tartu Ülikooli Viljandi Kultuuriakadeemia , short: TÜ VKA) is a higher education institution for applied cultural subjects located in the small Estonian town of Viljandi .

The Viljandi Academy of Culture has been one of the five colleges of the University of Tartu since 2005 . The academy offers courses at both the technical college and university level.
The main focus of studies and research at the academy is in the areas of cultural education and performing arts. In addition to dance and choir conducting, the courses offered include folk music and theater professions (theater manager, light and sound director, and set designer).
The academy has around 800 students, half of whom are distance learning. Teaching and teaching are based on the continuity and sustainability of traditional Estonian culture, which is enriched by new impulses that contribute to the expansion of the definition of traditional culture.
history
The facility was founded in Tallinn in 1952. The task was to train librarians and managers of the cultural centers in the then Estonian Soviet Socialist Republic . In 1960 the training center moved to Viljandi in Central Estonia. From 1978 it was called Viljandi Kultuurikool ("Viljandi Culture School").
When Estonian independence was regained, it changed its name to Viljandi Kultuurikolledž . Since 2003 it has been called Viljandi Kultuuriakadeemia . In August 2005 the previously independent university became an autonomous part of the University of Tartu .
