Villa Erlenburg

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Villa Erlenburg is located in the Aigen district in the city of Salzburg at Gänsbrunnstraße 1.

The villa was built in 1906 and the owner was the kuk . Colonel Guido Ehrler von Erlenburg, the executive architect was city architect Wagner. The villa is built in the Italian style according to the client's ideas. The villa stands above two intersecting streets and, according to the main front, is oriented precisely towards this intersection to the southwest.

The building is strictly symmetrical; the richly structured main front has a three-axis central projection with a stone balcony in front; two tower-like side projections placed around the corner complete the main front. The side parts are structured by risalit-like recesses. The windows on the ground floor are architraved with keystones and on the first floor with decorative framing. Above the door to the terrace is the family coat of arms of those of Erlenburg.

Two figures made of Bohemian sandstone are attached to the house, on the front, on the right, a Mother of God with child, on the east side the Archangel Michael; Both sculptures come from the Prague sculptor Emanuel Max von Wachstein , father of Luise Ehrler von Erlenburg. The red-covered spiers of the side elevation form a clear contrast to the yellow of the house color with the mansard roof . In the 1920s, previously existing stone sculptures were sold to Max Reinhardt for Leopoldskron Castle .

The villa is located in a spacious park with the Gaisbergbach flowing through it . The ensemble includes the Gänsbrunn Chapel, a square wayside shrine with a canopy from around 1800.

The villa has been extensively renovated in recent years. It is inhabited by the descendants of the builder and is not open to the public.
