Johannes Honsig-Erlenburg (born October 13, 1962 in Salzburg ) is an Austrian business lawyer and has been president of the International Mozarteum Foundation in Salzburg since 2006 . From 2009 to 2015 he was the managing director of the Herbert von Karajan Foundation, Salzburg Easter Festival and has been a member of the Board of Trustees of the Salzburg Festival since 2017 .

Life

He grew up as the son of a music-loving family of lawyers and began playing the piano as a primary school child . As a high school student he studied piano and organ at the Mozarteum in Salzburg and was organist in the Aigner church until 2005 .

Since the mid-1990s, Honsig-Erlenburg has been involved in the realignment of the Mozarteum Foundation , of which he has been President since 2006. His presidency includes the Mozart Week directorships of Marc Minkowski (2013 to 2017) and Rolando Villazón (from 2019), as well as the construction of the Propter Homines organ , financed by a foundation from Herbert Batliner , in the Great Hall of the Mozarteum, the acquisition of new national and international sponsor and an increased international orientation of the Mozarteum Foundation. Among other things, the first Cuban youth orchestra ( Havana Lyceum Orchestra ) - specializing in Viennese classical and Cuban music - was founded in 2009 on the initiative of the Mozarteum Foundation and invited to concerts in Europe. In 2016 the orchestra played on the occasion of the state visit of Federal President Heinz Fischer in Cuba. In 2018, Honsig-Erlenburg was responsible for the musical contribution of the Mozarteum Foundation to the state visit of Federal President Alexander Van der Bellen to China with the performance of little Anna Cäcilia with Mozart's children's violin in front of Chinese President Xi Jinping .

Johannes Honsig has been working as a lawyer since 1990. He is the father of three grown children and is married to the Argentine Anna Avellaneda.
