Villa Romée

BW

The Villa Romée was planned in 1928 by the French architect Georges-Henri Pingusson at number 5 avenue de la Plage in Cannes ( Côte d'Azur ) on behalf of Madame Gompel. The construction was carried out in cooperation with the then partner of the architect Paul Furiet (1898–1930). The villa is registered as a Historic Monument (France) with the “Heritage of the Twentieth Century” seal.

distribution

The architect's youth work is influenced by the architecture of Frank Lloyd Wright . The villa consists of two structures superimposed in a cross shape at right angles. The one-storey building with a hipped roof, oriented from east to west, is penetrated by a three-storey structure in north-south direction. In the south, the structure is completed by a two-storey round building with three high vertical windows with a view of the sea. The flat roof of this part of the building also serves as a terrace for the upper floor. Due to the hillside location, the western part of the building with the dining room protrudes and forms a column-free, covered open space in the basement. The execution of the building deviates from the powerful modern idea as presented in the architect's perspective.

Monument protection

Despite the compromises in construction, the architect's youth work documents technical progress and illustrates the ideas of innovative modern building in the south of France in the twentieth century. The villa was registered as an Inventory of Cultural Heritage on March 25, 1994 on behalf of the French Ministry of Culture .
