Villa Rustica (Altheim-Wagham)

The Villa Rustica is a Roman estate , which the municipality in the district Wagham Altheim was found, and a Roman of three estates in the municipality.

Location and dating

The site is exactly south of the other two villas in the area, Weirading and Simetsberg . Since they are exactly on one line, it can be assumed that a Roman road ran here.

The villa was inhabited from around 100 to 200 AD and thus falls into the Roman Empire .

Research history and facility

Villa rustica was discovered in 1991 during the archaeological survey of the southern Innviertel . In 1992 the geophysical survey took place and in 1994 the villa was excavated by the Federal Monuments Office.

Like the villa in Weirading, this find was poorly preserved. The archaeologists found stone and gravel theft to a depth of 0.5 meters. The foundations of a 13.5 meter long building that were identified as part of the farm buildings were uncovered.
