Villbach
Villbach is a hamlet in the municipality of Jossgrund in the Spessart . It used to be part of the former municipality of Lettgenbrunn , which was merged with the municipality of Jossatal, now Jossgrund, in 1974 as part of the regional reform.
history
The founding of the village is associated with Beilstein Castle on the basalt cone of nearby Beilstein . Proven before 1313.
The highest point of Vielbach - today there is a horseshoe-shaped white farmstead - was the first court in the Jossa Valley in the Middle Ages , which was moved to Burgjoss in 1571 and to Orb in 1616 . At this height there is a stone crucifix from the Lettgenbrunner Friedhof as the only remnant of the historical place, which was evacuated in 1935 in the course of the construction of a bombing training area for the Gelnhausen-Rothenbergen air base.
Today's Villbach goes back to a resettlement by refugees from the former German eastern areas (Sudetenland, Silesia, East Prussia) after the end of the war.
Villbach today
Parts of the former bombing site now belong to the 18-hole golf course of the Bad Orb / Jossgrund golf club. A viewing telescope on the cemetery cross draws attention to a bunker tower of the blown up facility, which is still at hole 2.
Villbach is a station on the "European Pearls of the Jossa Cultural Cycle Path", an approx. 25 km long cycle path through the Jossgrund, which was created to promote tourism in the Spessart. The Villbach of the same name rises on the golf course , a tributary of the Jossa , sometimes mistaken for the source of the Jossa . The river pearl mussel was widespread in the Jossgrund in the Middle Ages , but its pearls were not used due to insufficient quality.
