Vincenzo Lavigna
Vincenzo Lavigna (born February 21, 1776 in Altamura , Province of Bari , † September 14, 1836 in Milan ) was a long-time concertmaster and harpsichordist at La Scala in Milan . Among his students was Giuseppe Verdi .
At the age of twelve Lavigna began taking lessons at the Conservatory in Naples, where he became a student of Giovanni Paisiello nine years later . In 1802 Lavigna followed Paisiello to Paris. From 1823 to 1832 he taught at the Conservatory in Milan until he gave the young Verdi private lessons because he was rejected from the Conservatory due to lack of talent.
