Vinitaly is the international trade fair for wines and spirits that has been held annually in Verona since 1967 .

Over 4,000 exhibitors and around 150,000 trade fair visitors use the more than 95,000 m² exhibition space. Every year more than fifty themed tastings of domestic and foreign wines take place at the wine fair ; discussed problems of the wine market as part of a conference program; the analyzes are carried out by Studi & Ricerche , the Vinitaly observation station. In addition to the exhibition space for wine producers, the trade fair offers workshops , buyers clubs and special exhibition spaces to promote “Made in Italy” and the companies that have just come onto the market.
International competitions and prizes are held as part of Vinitaly; the most important among them the International Oenology Competition , the International Packaging Competition and the International Vinitaly Prize , which together with the International Wine and Spirit Competition disseminates and promotes wine culture worldwide.
At the same time as Vinitaly, Sol , the international trade fair for quality extra virgin olive oil , Agrifood Club , a show for quality agricultural products and Enolitech , the international trade fair for technologies for vine cultivation, pressing and olive cultivation and oil production, will take place. Vinitaly also organizes Vinitaly for You , an event that takes place in the historic center of Verona in Piazza Bra . Vinitaly also assumes the role of an ambassador for Italian wine around the world with the Vinitaly in the world , B2B and B2C events on the most important international markets.

On September 22nd and 23rd, 1967, the "Italian Wine Days" took place in the Palazzo della Gran Guardia, and Vinitaly was officially founded. At the third event of the "Italian Wine Days" with their conferences in 1969, 130 wine companies exhibited their products. From 1971 the event was called Vinitaly - trade fair for the winemaking sector, a trade fair for all products in the sector, with a branch for machines, equipment and products for oenology . With the permission for foreign companies to participate, it became “international” in 1978.
The first trade fair for olives took place in 1987 as part of Vinitaly. From 1988 this trade fair was called “SOL.”. At the same time, “Distilla”, a trade fair for schnapps , brandy and distillates, was held.
The International Oenology Competition was held for the first time in 1992 and is now the most selective competition with the highest participation in the world; an average of 90 medals are awarded for over 3600 wines from around 30 countries. In 1995 the Vinitaly was given the new name Vinitaly - International Trade Fair for Wine and Distillates . A year later, another competition was launched, the International Packaging Competition , which awards the best wine bottle equipment. The international character of the Vinitaly trade fair was confirmed in 1998 and, based on the decision of the trade fair company "Veronafiere", reaffirmed the China Wine event , which was repeated in the following years. The winemaking and olive oil production equipment sector has become an independent event called Enolitech, the trade fair of technology for viticulture, oenology and olive oil production .
In June 2002 Veronafiere hosted the “Vino & Olio” (Wine & Oil) trade fair in Singapore . After first experiences the year before, the Vinitaly US Tour took place in Chicago and San Francisco in 2003 , followed in the same year by participation in the IFOWS, l'Italian Food and Wine Show in Mumbay, India . Vinitaly for You , a follow-up event for "Wine Lovers", was also launched. The Vinitaly trade fair brand appeared for the first time in China and Russia for the first time after six years of presence .
The exhibition space in Verona was expanded by two new halls in 2006, and the fair expanded its presence on foreign markets thanks to “Vinitaly Japan” in November in Tokyo , the first event with the Vinitaly brand in India, in Mumbay and New Delhi , the third event in Russia with the novelty St. Petersburg together with the confirmation of the location Moscow , Vinitaly US Tour (in Chicago, Los Angeles and Las Vegas ) and finally “Vinitaly China” in Shanghai . For the first time, the international packaging competition also included liqueurs and distillates made from other types of fruit; In 2005 the competition was already open to distillates from wine products.
After the first successful experience of Agrifood Club , the trade fair for high-quality agro-food products in 2008, the following year it was decided to expand the range of goods for the benefit of foreign buyers, in addition to wine with Vinitaly and extra virgin olive oil with sol, to the entire agro-food range of the " Made in Italy ”. The exhibitors at the trade fair Enolitech a service for the detection of food falsification has been offered for the protection of industrial and intellectual property of the products so that they can defend themselves against the operators in the sector who issue fake products or operate unfair competition.
The leitmotifs of the 44th Vinitaly 2010 were modern services for companies as well as direct marketing via the web in order to increase the number of trade visitors from abroad and to keep those who were already at Vinitaly interested. For the first time, an official visit by an Italian President to the trade fair took place. Vinitaly World Tour changed formats and became Vinitaly in the World , following an agreement between the Ministry of Agricultural Policy and Veronafiere . In 2011 Vinitaly became the protagonist of the celebrations for the 150th anniversary of the unity of Italy with “a special bottling”. Veronafiere's project is the only one that was allowed to use the official logo of the celebrations for the relevant industry. From a selection of 20 pure red wines and 20 white wines pure, representing a variety of wines from each of the 20 regions of Italy, two wines were vinified that the President Giorgio Napolitano were presented and then the most important international politicians as a gift.
