Violet mustard ( French Moutarde violette de Brive ) is a sweet table mustard from the French town of Brive-la-Gaillarde . Its color comes from the fact that it is made with red grape must , which is also regulated by law in France. It is traditionally eaten with black pudding.

According to legend, the mustard of Pope Clement VI. that came from the Corrèze department . After a phase of oblivion, the mustard was produced again in the 1950s by the Denoix distillery in Brive, which has been selling it ever since.
