The Evangelical Reformed Vellager Church is located in Vellage , a district of Weener , in the East Frisian Rheiderland . The dating of the brick church ranges from the 13th to the 15th century.

history

In the Middle Ages, Vellage was subordinate to the broadcasting area of the local church in the Diocese of Osnabrück as a daughter church of Aschendorf . The small Vellager church on a mound may be traced back to a Romanesque hall church from the 13th century, after which the small arched windows and the (later walled) portal on the north side and the dentil frieze point. The building is the remainder of a monastery property, which was donated by the Johannitern , who maintained a Vorwerk in the neighboring holding . During the Gothic period, the church underwent extensive renovations. According to another opinion, the first stone church in the Gothic was completely replaced by a successor building.

In the course of the Reformation , the parish changed to the Reformed Confession. Over the centuries, the tower has sunk a little sideways; it was stabilized in the 20th century by a longitudinal anchor.

architecture

The hall church with a straight east end is covered by a gable roof. The rectangular floor plan is 14.6 meters × 7.8 meters with a height of only 3.4 meters.

On the north side there is a loopholes in the west and a hagioscope to the east . A sacrament niche and a niche for an earlier piscina have been preserved on the north and east sides . The west tower with a tent roof was added in the 14th or 15th century. The east side has two walled-in arched windows in the lower area and three staggered ogival panels in the gable field .
