Kirchborgum Church

The Evangelical Reformed Church in Kirchborgum is located in Kirchborgum , a district of Weener in East Frisia . The church is located on the Ems and dates from 1827.

history

In pre-Reformation time the place was under the provost Hatzum in the Diocese of Münster , to the community the reformed faith joined. The first church in the village was built in 1636 opposite Driever , but sank in the 17th century in the floods of the Ems, which had changed its course due to a dike breach. So a new church was built, which had to be demolished after less than 200 years due to dilapidation. Today's simple brick building was built in 1827 as a hall church according to plans by JB Kröger in the classicism style and is characterized by pilaster strips and arched windows . A hipped roof forms the conclusion. The squat bell tower, which also serves as an entrance, dates from 1766 and was built in place of the previous tower. It was financed from the money of the poor. During the Second World War , the church was badly damaged, so that the residents of the village had to attend church services in Weener until the building was restored.

Furnishing

Rohlfs organ

The interior is a pastel green wooden barrel vaults , the wine-red pews, the Biedermeier - pulpit from the previous Church and the organ of Gebrüder Rohlfs embossed. The instrument with its neo-Romanesque prospectus and flanking angels was built in 1876-78 on the west side with eight voices without aliquot register on a manual and pedal and has largely been preserved. The Vasa Sacra includes a chalice from 1654 and a jug, bread plate and chalice from the 20th century.
