Menno Smid

Menno Smid (born January 1, 1928 in Negenbargen (today part of the city of Wittmund ), † September 20, 2013 in Emden ) was a German Lutheran theologian, clergyman and author of the standard work on East Frisian church history . Smid was married and had five children.

Life

Smid grew up in the Wittmund district . He passed his Abitur in 1947 in Jever . He then studied Protestant theology in Wuppertal , Tübingen and Göttingen . He served his vicariate from 1954 to 1956 at the clinic rectory in Göttingen, in the preacher's seminary at the Erichsburg , in Loccum and Nienhagen. After ordination in October 1956, Smid first became pastor at the Christ Church in Leer , from May 1957 in Pogum and from November 1966 in Logabirum . He submitted his dissertation in Göttingen. There he received his doctorate theologiae in 1976 . From October 1978 he was Superintendent of the Evangelical Lutheran Church District Emden and pastor of the first parish office of the Martin Luther parish in Emden. He held this office until he retired on January 1, 1993.

From 1971 to 1995 Smid was also a member of the regional synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Hanover . There he was a member of the regional synodal committee for 14 years (1977 to 1990), nine of which (1982 to 1990) as its chairman. From 1990 to 1995 he was chairman of the finance committee of the regional synod.
