Negenbargen is a village in East Frisia . Politically it belongs to Burhafe , a district of Wittmund , the district town of the district of the same name .

The name of the place first mentioned in 1564 as Negen Buirn is of Low German origin. It means nine mountains and refers to prehistoric barrows that used to exist in the local area. Other well-known spellings of the place name were Negenbergen (1565/66) and after the Neigen bergen (1597). The current spelling has been used since 1684. According to population statistics for 1823, 127 inhabitants lived in Negenbargen, spread over 23 fire places. The statistical handbook for the Kingdom of Hanover lists 70 residential buildings for the year 1848, in which 364 residents live.
