Johann David Heilmann

Johann David Heilmann (born January 13, 1727 in Osnabrück , † February 22, 1764 in Göttingen ) was a German classical philologist , Protestant theologian , headmaster and university teacher .

Life

Heilmann first attended grammar school in Osnabrück , where he received particularly good language training. In 1746 he began studying at the University of Halle . He was particularly influenced by Siegmund Jakob Baumgarten and Christian Benedikt Michaelis . He stayed in Halle for a total of eight years. During this time he made his living as a translator, among other things.

In 1754 Heilmann accepted an appointment as rector of the high school in Hameln . Two years later, he moved back to his hometown, as rector of the Osnabrück grammar school, before he accepted an appointment as a full professor of theology at the University of Göttingen in 1757 , after he had initially received calls from the universities in Halle and Helmstedt . 1758 he was at the University of Rinteln for doctor of theology doctorate . His theological lectures were considered very liberal. Shortly after he took up the position in Göttingen, he fell ill. He died of the consequences just a little over five years after taking office.
