Violotta

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The violotta is a tenor viola that was invented by the German violin maker Alfred Stelzner . A patent was applied for in 1891.

The tuning is an octave lower than the violin , namely G da e '. It was rarely prescribed by the composer.

The works in question include the string quintet in A major (WoO 25) by Felix Draeseke , string sextets by Arnold Krug (D major, op. 68), Eduard Behm (both also use the Cellone, also invented by Stelzner ) and Theodor Streicher ( F major) as well as the opera " Der Pfeifertag " by Max von Schillings .
