Earl of Camperdown
Earl of Camperdown , of Lundie in the County of Forfar and of Gleneagles in the County of Perth , was a hereditary British title in the Peerage of the United Kingdom .
History of the title
The title was created on April 28, 1831 for Robert Duncan, 2nd Viscount Duncan .
Already in 1804 he had the title Viscount Duncan , of Camperdown, and Baron Duncan , of Lundie in the County of Forfar, from his father, Admiral Adam Duncan, 1st Viscount Duncan , which he was given on October 30, 1797 in the Peerage of Great Britain , inherited.
The name of the title refers to the sea battle at Camperduin (English Camperdown), in which Adam Duncan commanded the victorious British fleet.
The titles expired when the 4th Earl died childless on December 5, 1933.
