Viscount FitzWilliam
Viscount FitzWilliam , of Merrion in the County of Dublin , was a hereditary British title in the Peerage of Ireland .
The Viscount family seat was Mount Merrion House in County Dublin, Ireland.
Award and history of the title
The title was created on August 5, 1629 by King Charles I for Thomas FitzWilliam . Together with the Viscount title he was awarded the subordinate title Baron FitzWilliam , of Thorncastle in the County of Dublin in the Peerage of Ireland .
His son, the 2nd Viscount, was elevated to Earl of Tyrconnell on April 20, 1661 . His earl title expired on April 11, 1667 when he died childless. His Viscountcy and Barony fell to his younger brother as the 3rd Viscount.
Both titles finally expired with the childless death of the 9th Viscount in January 1833.
