Hugh Gough, 1st Viscount Gough

Viscount Gough , of Goojerat in the Punjab and of the City of Limerick , is a hereditary British title in the Peerage of the United Kingdom .

Award

The title was created on June 15, 1849 for the British military and later Field Marshal Hugh Gough, 1st Baron Gough , in recognition of his victory in the Battle of Gujrat on February 21, 1849, which decided the Second Sikh War in the British.

He had previously been awarded the title Baronet , of Synone and Drangan on December 23, 1842 , and the title of Baron Gough , of ChingKangFoo in China and of Maharajpore and the Sutlej in the East Indies on April 25, 1846 . The two titles belong to the Baronetage and Peerage of the United Kingdom and have since been listed as subordinate titles to the Viscount.

The current title holder, the 5th Viscount, is unmarried and childless. It therefore seems that there is currently no title heir.

Viscounts Gough's headquarters are in Keppoch House near Dingwall in Ross-shire .
